GREAT ZANSKAR CROSSING TREK - LAMAYURU TO SERCHU

22
days
DESCRIPTION:

Perhaps one of the most famous treks in the Ladakh region, the Great Crossing of Zanskar offers some of the most stunning views of the Himalayas. Going through some of the remotest villages of Zanskar, the trek stretches over a period of 14 days and goes through a total of 8 high-altitude mountain passes. The trek, especially in its first stretch (Lamayuru to Pidmo) where there is almost a pass a day to cross, is demanding with much elevation and depreciation. Half way through the trek you will have a chance to rest and visit some dazzling monasteries in the Zanskar valley proper where there is a road. In its second stretch (Purni to Serchu), the trail goes through some pleasant even terrain with beautiful oasis-like villages and the extraordinary cliff-hanging Phuktal monastery. Finally the last stretch before Serchu will be a demanding one as you will cross the highest pass of the journey at an altitude of 5350 meters, the Phirtse La.

Before the trek Namkha has also arranged a brief cultural tour through the Leh and Sham valleys of Ladakh so that you may experience a taste of the Ladakhi way of life.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:

With extreme temperatures and heavy snowfall blocking the majority of roads getting in and out of Ladakh during the Winter months, the only adequate season for this trek is the Summer. In between the months of June through September, all roads are open and the weather is warm with abundant sunshine.
