Ladakh is known for its striking and rugged beauty. In this vast and still high altitude Himalayan desert, villages and their domi- nating monasteries appear like true oases of life. We have designed this itinerary for those of you who have the time to see and experience the exhilarating beauty of Ladakh in its various forms. This tour will take you to three distinct valleys and landscapes: the Leh and Sham valleys, with their lush villages with numerous apricot orchards and stunning monasteries; the Nubra valley, a high altitude desert which used to connect Ladakh with all the major centres of the silk route and where the rare Bactrian camel can be found; and finally the Changthang plateau, where the large turquoise-like Tsomoriri lake and numerous yak herding nomads can be found. With highlights like visiting nomads in their camp and tasting Tibetan butter tea with them, driving up the Khardong La pass, the highest motorable road in the world on the way to Nubra, or marveling at the ancient frescos of the Alchi temple complex, we have no doubts that this journey will be an unforgettable one.
